1996 Cannondale H400 CAAD1 Hybrid 18” Handmade USA Vntge 700c Shimano - $225

1996 Cannondale H400 CAAD1 Hybrid 18” Handmade USA Vintage 700c Shimano

Description
A lightly ridden 1996 Cannondale H400 hybrid in an 18-inch frame, built around Cannondale’s USA-made CAAD aluminum chassis. This is a particularly useful example of a mid-1990s Cannondale: light, quick on pavement, comfortable enough for longer recreational rides, and practical enough for commuting or everyday transportation.

The bike has been professionally tuned and is ready to ride. It retains much of its period equipment and has also been set up with a rear rack, two bottle cages, bell, and road-oriented 700c tires.

The 1996 Cannondale catalog specifically describes the H400 as a CAAD1 Hybrid frame, handmade in the USA, and lists Shimano STX-level equipment for the model. (Vintage Cannondale)

Cosmetically, it shows normal evidence of use and age, including paint chips and scuffs, wear to the saddle, and some surface oxidation on components. Please review the detailed photographs—they are intended to show the bicycle accurately.

Specifics

Year: 1996
Brand: Cannondale
Model: H400
Frame: CAAD1 aluminum
Frame size: 18"
Wheel size: 700c
Color: Black Gold
Country of manufacture: USA
Style: Hybrid / fitness / commuter / recreational
Condition: Pre-owned, lightly ridden, professionally tuned and ready to ride

The Black Gold finish shown here also corresponds with the color identified for the H400 in Cannondale’s 1996 catalog.

Components

• Shimano Acera X front derailleur
• Shimano STX rear derailleur
• Shimano Altus cantilever brakes
• Grip shifters- Grip Shift SRT-400
• Shimano Alivio Triple crankset
• Shimano sealed-mechanism front hub
• 700c alloy wheels
• CODA Performance handlebar
• Odyssey platform pedals
• Rear cargo rack
• Two bottle cages
• Bell
• Rear reflector/light mount

Why It Matters

The H400 comes from a particularly interesting period in Cannondale history. Rather than being simply another older hybrid, it combines the versatility of the emerging 1990s fitness-bike category with the distinctive large-section aluminum construction that made Cannondale recognizable.

More importantly for someone who actually wants to ride it, the concept has aged extremely well. A lightweight rigid aluminum frame, 700c wheels, wide gearing, upright flat-bar controls, rack compatibility and conventional rim brakes make this remarkably close in purpose to a modern fitness or commuter bike—without the cost or complexity of a new one.

And the 18-inch size is useful. It gives a smaller-to-medium rider an opportunity to own a genuine USA-built Cannondale rather than trying to make one of the much more commonly encountered large vintage frames work.

1986 Schwinn Voyageur II Touring Bike – 59cm – Single Owner – Vintage - $60

1986 Schwinn Voyageur II Touring Bike – 59cm – Single Owner – Vintage Steel

Description
A wonderfully preserved 1986 Schwinn Voyageur II, owned by the same rider since new and now professionally tuned and ready to ride.

The Voyageur was built as a true touring bicycle, and this example still has the character that makes these bikes so appealing: a classic steel frame, triple drivetrain, drop bars, full fenders, rear rack, and a riding position designed for long days rather than short trips around the neighborhood. Schwinn’s 1986 catalog places the Voyageur squarely in its touring lineup.

Finished in a beautiful deep green with gold graphics, this bike remains remarkably complete and wears its nearly forty years honestly. There are scratches, oxidation, finish wear, and other signs of use, but no attempt has been made to erase its history through unnecessary cosmetic restoration.

The bike has been professionally tuned by The Whistle Bike Shop. The vintage gumwall tires show age and should be evaluated or replaced before serious mileage or loaded touring due to some cracking.

Specifics

Year: 1986
Brand: Schwinn
Model: Voyageur II
Frame Size: 59cm
Frame: Steel
Color: Deep green with gold graphics
Drivetrain: Triple crankset
Rear Derailleur: Shimano Light Action
Shifters: Downtube
Brake Levers: Dia-Compe Grand Compe
Rims: Wolber Super Champion alloy
Saddle: San Marco
Wheels: Quick release
Accessories: Full fenders, aluminum rear rack, dual bottle cages, toe clips and straps
Ownership: Single owner since new
Condition: Very good vintage condition with age-appropriate cosmetic wear and patina
Service: Professionally tuned and ready to ride

Why It Matters

The Voyageur comes from an era when a touring bicycle was expected to be versatile, durable, repairable, and comfortable enough to carry its rider a very long way.

That purpose is still visible throughout this bike. The steel frame, triple gearing, generous tire clearance, rack, fenders, and straightforward mechanical components weren't added to create a touring aesthetic—they were there because this bicycle was designed to travel.

Finding one is not especially remarkable. Finding a single-owner 1986 example this complete, with its history still visible rather than restored away, is considerably more interesting.

This is a bicycle for someone who wants to ride a piece of cycling history, not merely hang one on a wall.

2020 Trek 7 Speed Precaliber 20 Kids Mountain Bike — Tuned & Ready to Ride- $175

2020 Trek Precaliber 20 Kids Mountain Bike — Tuned & Ready to Ride

Description

A 2020 Trek Precaliber 20 kids mountain bike that has been professionally tuned and is ready for its next rider.

The Precaliber is a real geared bicycle scaled for younger riders rather than a toy-store bike. It combines an aluminum frame, suspension fork, wide Bontrager tires, hand brakes, and simple twist shifting in a package that works equally well for neighborhood riding, crushed-limestone trails, bike paths, and a child's first adventures on easier singletrack.

This one has been ridden and shows normal cosmetic wear, including scratches and scuffs to the frame, controls, saddle, and pedals. Mechanically, it has been serviced and is ready to go.

Specifics

Year: 2020
Make: Trek
Model: Precaliber 20
Wheel Size: 20"
Frame: Alpha Silver Aluminum
Color: Black with blue, purple, and red graphics
Fork: Suspension fork
Gearing: 6-speed
Brakes: Linear-pull rim brakes
Tires: Bontrager XR1, 20 × 2.25"
Kickstand: Included
Reflectors: Front, rear, and wheel reflectors

Condition: Good used condition. The bicycle shows the normal evidence of being a kid's bike—paint chips, scratches, control scuffs, pedal wear, and some saddle wear are visible. The photos are intentionally detailed so you can see the condition clearly.

Components

  • Trek Alpha Silver Aluminum frame

  • 20" aluminum wheels

  • Bontrager XR1 20 × 2.25" tires

  • Suspension fork

  • Shimano 6-speed drivetrain

  • Shimano RevoShift twist shifter

  • Shimano Tourney rear derailleur

  • Single front chainring with chainguard

  • Linear-pull hand brakes

  • Platform pedals

  • Adjustable saddle and seatpost

  • Kickstand

  • Front and rear reflectors

Why It Matters

The Precaliber sits in a useful place in a child's progression: simple enough to operate confidently, but capable enough to let them start riding beyond the driveway.

The 20" wheels and relatively wide XR1 tires provide stability, while the six-speed drivetrain gives a young rider enough gearing to tackle hills without making shifting unnecessarily complicated. Hand brakes also begin building the skills they'll use on their next full-size mountain bike.

And because kids grow quickly, a good used Precaliber can make considerably more sense than buying a new bike they'll eventually outgrow.

This one has already been tuned, so the next rider can simply get on and ride.

1985 Schwinn Voyageur SP — 54cm — One Owner — Original Equipment- $625

Description

A remarkably complete 1985 Schwinn Voyageur SP in Midnight Blue, owned by the same rider since new and very well maintained.

This is the kind of vintage touring bicycle that is increasingly difficult to find: not merely an old frame fitted with later components, but a coherent bicycle retaining its period equipment, accessories, and character. The paint and components show honest use and age, but the bicycle presents beautifully as a complete 1980s touring machine.

Specifics

Year: 1985
Make: Schwinn
Model: Voyageur SP
Size: 54cm / approximately 21"
Color: Midnight Blue
Frame: Columbus Tenax custom-blend double-butted chromoly main tubes
Fork: Tange chromoly touring fork
Ownership: One owner
Condition: Very good vintage condition with normal cosmetic wear from age and use

The frame includes the practical details expected of a dedicated touring bicycle: rack and fender provisions, generous tire clearance, and three bottle-cage positions.

Components

This bicycle retains an unusually complete collection of its period equipment:

  • Drivetrain: Suntour XC long-cage rear derailleur; Suntour Mountech front derailleur; Suntour New Superbe Pro downtube shifters

  • Crankset: Sugino TAT forged-alloy triple, 30/46/50T

  • Freewheel: Suntour New Winner 5-speed, 14–28T

  • Brakes: Dia-Compe 981 cantilevers

  • Cockpit: Cinelli 64-40 alloy handlebar and Cinelli 1/A stem

  • Wheels: Super Champion Model 58 rims with Performance front hub

  • Saddle: Avocet Touring I

  • Pedals: SR alloy pedals with toe clips and leather straps

  • Touring equipment: Blackburn USA racks, full fenders, and bottle cages

The saddle, bar covering, decals, paint and alloy components all show varying degrees of age and use; please use the detailed photographs as part of the condition description.

Why It Matters

The Voyageur SP comes from an era when a serious touring bicycle was designed as a complete system. The triple crank, wide-range gearing, cantilever brakes, long-cage derailleur, racks, fenders and multiple bottle mounts all serve the same purpose: carrying a rider and gear comfortably over long distances.

What makes this particular example interesting is its completeness. Forty years later, many Voyageurs have been stripped, converted, repainted or assembled from components spanning several decades. This one still tells a remarkably coherent story.

It would make a wonderful choice for someone looking for a classic steel touring bicycle to ride, an enthusiast who appreciates period Suntour and Japanese components, or a Schwinn collector looking for a particularly complete Voyageur SP.

The Whistle Bike Shop is an independent bicycle shop in Pittsburgh specializing in thoughtful service, repair, and interesting bicycles—new and old.

Our vintage bicycles are evaluated as bicycles first. We look closely at the frame, components, mechanical condition and the integrity of the complete machine, with the goal of accurately representing what you're buying.

This Voyageur SP is being offered through the shop on behalf of its original owner.

1989 GT Karakoram 22" Large Grey Splatter Vintage MTB Café Cruiser - $675

1989 GT Karakoram — 22" Large — Grey Splatter — Vintage MTB / Café Cruiser

Description

A remarkably well-preserved 1989 GT Karakoram in GT's fantastic grey splatter finish. This is a one-owner, very lightly ridden 22" large-frame bike retaining the character and much of the original equipment that make late-'80s GT mountain bikes so desirable.

Rather than over-modernizing it, the upgrades were chosen to turn the Karakoram into an exceptionally fun café cruiser, rail-trail bike and around-town machine while preserving its unmistakable vintage GT identity.

Specifics & Components

  • Year: 1989

  • Model: GT Karakoram

  • Size: 22" / Large

  • Frame: GT chromoly steel

  • Construction: Classic GT Triple Triangle design

  • Finish: Original grey/black splatter

  • Fork: Original rigid GT chromoly fork

  • Drivetrain: Original triple drivetrain

  • Rear derailleur: Shimano Mountain-LX

  • Front derailleur: Shimano

  • Crankset: Original triple

  • Shifters: Original Shimano indexed thumb shifters

  • Brakes: Original cantilever brakes

  • Wheels: Original 26" alloy wheelset

  • Handlebar: Topos riser bar — upgraded

  • Grips: AME TRI grey grips — upgraded

  • Cables/Housing: White Jagwire housing and cables — upgraded

  • Tires: Schwalbe Billy Bonkers tan-wall — upgraded

  • Saddle: Vintage Italian leather saddle — upgraded

  • Pedals: Platform pedals

  • Condition: Exceptionally clean for its age; very lightly ridden with normal minor cosmetic wear

  • Service: Fully serviced, tuned and ready to ride

Why This Bike Matters

The Karakoram comes from a particularly good moment in mountain-bike history. By 1989 the mountain bike had developed into a serious machine, but it was still wonderfully simple: rigid steel frame, 26" wheels, thumb shifters, cantilever brakes and wide-range gearing.

And then there is the frame. GT's Triple Triangle construction became one of the most recognizable silhouettes in mountain biking, while the splatter finish places this bike unmistakably in the late 1980s.

This example has another advantage: it hasn't been restored to death. The original frame finish, decals, drivetrain and period hardware remain visible, including the wonderfully era-specific Mountain-LX rear derailleur.

The modern changes are reversible and make sense. The riser bar creates a more relaxed riding position; AME grips fit the period aesthetic; fresh Jagwire cables improve function; and the tan-wall Billy Bonkers give the bike considerably more capability on pavement, crushed limestone and light gravel.

The result isn't trying to pretend that a 1989 mountain bike is a modern trail bike. It's something arguably more useful today: a beautifully made vintage steel all-purpose bicycle.

About The Whistle Bike Shop

This bicycle has been fully inspected, serviced and tuned by The Whistle Bike Shop, an independent Pittsburgh bicycle shop established in 2013.

The goal with bikes like this is preservation rather than unnecessary replacement: retain the parts and character that make the bicycle interesting, service what needs servicing, and make thoughtful changes where they improve the actual riding experience.

It is being sold as a ready-to-ride bicycle, not an as-found vintage project.

1992 Cannondale T600 Touring Bike — 60cm — USA Made — One Owner - $625

Description
A beautifully preserved 1992 Cannondale T600 touring bike in the hard-to-find 60cm size. This is a one-owner bike that was very lightly ridden and remains remarkably original, with a few smart modern upgrades that make it much more useful as a rider today.
The T600 was Cannondale’s purpose-built touring platform: a lightweight aluminum frame handbuilt in the USA, stable touring geometry, wide gearing, cantilever brakes, 700c wheels, and provisions for bottles, racks and fenders.
This example has been upgraded with SunTour Barcon bar-end shifters, Panaracer GravelKing SK+ 700×35C tan-wall tires, and a Cannondale Fabric saddle. It has been fully serviced and tuned by The Whistle Bike Shop and is ready to ride.

Specifics & Components
• Year: 1992
• Model: Cannondale T600
• Size: 60cm
• Frame: Cannondale aluminum, handbuilt in USA
• Fork: Tange chromoly touring fork
• Color: Metallic blue with gold graphics
• Drivetrain: 3×6 / 18-speed
• Rear derailleur: Shimano Exage 500 LX
• Front derailleur: Shimano Exage
• Crankset: Shimano triple
• Shifters: SunTour Barcon bar-end shifters — upgraded
• Brakes: Dia-Compe cantilever
• Brake levers: Dia-Compe aero
• Handlebars: Modolo anatomic drop
• Stem: Nitto Technomic
• Rims: Sun Mistral 700c alloy
• Wheels: 36-spoke touring wheels
• Tires: Panaracer GravelKing SK+ TLR 700×35C, tan-wall — upgraded
• Saddle: Cannondale Fabric — upgraded
• Bottle cages: Dual aluminum cages
• Pedals: Clipless
• Condition: One owner, very lightly ridden; excellent overall vintage condition with normal minor cosmetic marks
• Service: Fully tuned and ready to ride

Why This Bike Matters
The T600 comes from an interesting period in American bicycle manufacturing. Cannondale was building aluminum frames in Pennsylvania at a time when most quality touring bikes were still steel, and the company developed a distinctly American interpretation of the traditional touring bicycle.

This one is particularly appealing because it hasn't been turned into a modern parts-bin build. The original character is still there. The Shimano/Dia-Compe/Nitto/Modolo equipment keeps it rooted in its period, while the Barcons, 35mm GravelKings and Fabric saddle make it considerably nicer to actually ride.

The 60cm frame also matters. Large vintage touring bikes are substantially harder to find than mid-sized examples. For the right tall rider, this isn't merely an interesting old Cannondale—it is a genuinely usable touring, rail-trail and all-road bicycle.
And the GravelKings subtly change what the bike can be today. With 35mm SK+ tires, it moves comfortably beyond pavement into crushed limestone, towpaths and maintained gravel without sacrificing its classic touring identity.

About The Whistle Bike Shop
This bicycle has been inspected, serviced and tuned by The Whistle Bike Shop, an independent Pittsburgh bicycle shop established in 2013.

Unlike buying an unknown vintage bicycle from a garage, estate sale or online seller, this bike has been gone through by a working bicycle shop. Braking, shifting and general mechanical function have been checked and adjusted so the bike is being sold as a ready-to-ride bicycle, not as an as-found restoration project.

Vintage bicycles will naturally show cosmetic evidence of age and use; photographs are part of the condition description.

## Why This Matters

The late-2000s We The People completes helped define modern BMX geometry and component standards. The Arcade sat in the sweet spot between entry-level and serious rider territory, making these especially appealing today as riders revisit the clean transitional era before ultra-short geometry and fully brakeless setups took over.

The presence of both front and rear 990 mounts — with brakes still installed — is increasingly uncommon on surviving BMX bikes from this era, especially on bikes that escaped heavy street abuse or part swapping.

This bike also has strong visual identity:

* Matching black/gold argyle graphics
* Coordinated Salt cockpit and wheel components
* Clean, understated street/park aesthetic
* Original-period appearance rather than a parts-bin rebuild

A great candidate for:

* BMX collection
* Rider restoration
* Wall/display bike
* Period-correct late-2000s freestyle setup
* Everyday neighborhood rider
