1960s Sears Spyder 20” Muscle Bike Purple Murray Built Komet Coaster - $375

1960s Sears Spyder 20” Muscle Bike finished in a beautiful metallic purple factory paint and built by Murray of Ohio, one of the major American bicycle manufacturers of the era.

This is a fantastic survivor from the golden age of muscle bikes, inspired by the popularity of the Schwinn Sting-Ray. The Sears Spyder models were sold through the Sears catalog and department stores and are now sought after by collectors of 1960s banana seat bikes and vintage American BMX predecessors.

This bike retains many original components including the rare Fast One front tire, Komet coaster brake hub, Murray rear rim, and original Spyder chain guard.

The bike presents extremely well for its age and shows honest patina consistent with a true survivor.

Why It Matters

1960s muscle bikes represent one of the most iconic periods in American bicycle history. Inspired by drag racing culture and motorcycles, bikes like the Sears Spyder featured:

• Banana seats
• Tall sissy bars
• High-rise handlebars
• Bold metallic colors

Many were heavily ridden or modified, making original survivor examples increasingly difficult to find.

This bike captures the look and spirit of the Schwinn Sting-Ray era, but with the unique style of Sears catalog bicycles built by Murray.
